Yesterday Minister of Works Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez announced that $8.9 million which had been budgeted to pave ten miles of feeder road between Progresso and San Estevan Villages - is being re-assigned to pave principal streets in Belize City. Today Chairman of the PUP’s Northern Caucus John Briceno called on government to reconsider. He writes that the feeder roads in Corozal need to be paved because residents would then be able to bring their produce to markets.

“Boots” Martinez told us yesterday that his ministry does still intend to upgrade the road between Progresso and San Estevan Villages. But his argument is that of the engineers, the hot mix is load intensive, which makes it too expensive and ill-suited for a feeder road.
