And the man the union wants an independent audit to investigate is Chairman Ricardo Fabro. As was made public yesterday a company MC Pharmaceutical, which is owned by Fabro’s wife received a contract from the KHMH. The BMDU said that at best it was a conflict of interest – and at worst – evidence of corruption. But not so fast says Fabro, who today responded to the allegations.

Dr. Ricardo Fabro, Chairman – KHMH
“It is no news that we were awarded a tender last year and it is no news again that we were not awarded a tender this year. So obviously any tender that I got had no bearing on any position I had as the Chairman of this Board. If you saw the news last night, the President of the BMDU made some allegations or inference. I don’t know if you as reporters would not feel very uncomfortable with hearing him say it because I really think that he has appointed himself my judge, jury, and my executioner with evidence that are not based on substance.

He showed an invoice so I feel that it is really my duty and my responsibility to clear up my name on at least that one invoice that he showed only one invoice, that’s his sum total evidence he has been showing right now. This is the copies of the invoices attached to these checks and if you can look here, you will see attached is check for $765 for invoice 223 paid to me, not to me but to MC Pharmaceuticals by the government of Belize. No hanky panky going on."
