House Meeting Scheduled for Monday

And in other Government news – we note the very unusual scheduling of a House Meeting on next Monday, August 24th. House meetings are always held on Fridays – except when there’s a budget debate or a ceremonial event like the visit of a head of state. So what’s the occasion for Monday which is a Special house sitting? It’s a mystery to us; the House papers circulated so far show three mostly unremarkable bills being tabled: a returnable containers bill which will give relief to local bottlers by putting taxes on the bottle carrying imported beverages and two crime related bills to be evidence amendment bill and indictable procedures bill which will allow for witness statements to be used as evidence in court without the witness having to appear.
