Three weeks ago we showed you how the UDP machine descended upon Corozal Bay for the divisional convention.
Yesterday the PUP put off quite a show of its own with its convention for the same area. It was a four way race between Freddy Ewens, Greg Papas Garcia Jr., Anwar Charaf and Nayo Folgarait.
The event was held at a smaller venue than the UDP - the PUP's divisional office on College Road which led to prolific lines - these images were taken at a few minutes to five when as many as 200 people were still in line.
When the Ballots were counted, Papas Garcia had won with 682 votes, Freddy Ewens had 357 for second place, Anwar Charaf had 351 for third and Nayo Folgarait had 336 for fourth.
Pappas Garcia is the son of the party's National Communications Manager Narda Garcia.
And while the overall turnout of 1725 is considered a large convention - and the place looked impressive, the UDP had 2,702 at its convention weeks earlier. The winner in that case, incumbent Pablo Marin got 1666 votes, while the winner in this case Garcia got les then 40% of the vote in this four way contest.
