And, finally from AG Peyreffite tonight, Belize will get a special visit from a team of experts from Haiti and Tuvalu this weekend. This is part of the implementation of UNCAC - the United Nations Convention against Corruption. AG Michael Peyrefitte told us more about this site visit.
Hon. Michael Peyrefitte, Attorney General
"They are set to arrive in country this weekend so Tuvalu and Haiti their representatives, their experts along with the experts and technical people from the United Nations office on drugs and crime will be coming into country over the weekend to launch their site visit so to speak next week in Belize. They are set to meet with everybody so from those meetings they will then go back and prepare a report as to where they believe our laws fall short and what laws we need to implement. Then they will make suggestions after they have done the country visit but they are set to meet with our experts, everybody is in place the solicitor general, the DPP, FIU, the opposition asked for their own audience and they will get their own audience but technically who these people meet with is up to them, they decide who they want to talk to, they decide what information they will deem as important so they can do their report according to the mandate under the UNODC."
It will be entirely up to the team who they meet with and how long they stay in Belize. Peyrefitte says he will stay away from the process unless he is needed, to avoid any speculation of interference.
