And whenever that election is called - whether it be in very late October or early November - the Chamber of Commerce is suggesting that it be on a Sunday.

The Chamber is also rejecting the suggestion from the leader of the opposition that a holiday be declared for a weekday general election.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, the Chamber says that this holiday would be an added burden on employers who are already struggling due to the COVID economy.

They say they would have to find "holiday pay" and overtime for essential workers if a holiday is declared.

But, accepting that the holiday was propose because COVID measures will cause polling to be slower, the Chamber says that a fair compromise would be scheduling the general election on a Sunday.

While this has never been done in Belize, the Chamber says that unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures. They also point out that mass party political conventions are usually held on Sundays.
