Coming up shortly we'll tell you how the Prime Minister's wife Kim Barrow has stepped down as Special Envoy, but when will her husband step down as Prime Minister?
The wording of a flyer for a UDP event next week Thursday October 8th, talks about "an official farewell to outgoing Party Leader, Dean Barrow" and the official "installation of Patrick Faber as the new UDP Party Leader."
But, yesterday in Belmopan, the Party Chairman Michael Peyrefitte made it clear that Dean Barrow has not resigned - and will not resign on October 8th.
Here's how he explained it:
Hon. Michael Peyrefitte - Chairman, PUP
"The leader of the UDP is the right Honourable Dean Barrow, he is the leader of the UDP. We have a party leader elect, but that party leader elect does not become the party leader until the current party leader resigns and the current party leader has not resigned, he will not resign on October 8th and he will be the Prime Minister right up until another Prime Minister is sworn in. What I can tell you and I don't believe I'm telling too much of a detail but essentially, as the party leader elect, the Honourable Patrick Faber has been tasked to oversee all party business as the party leader elect, while the Prime Minister and current party leader has taken over just the running of the government until a new government is formed. What will happen with that launching of the Honourable Patrick Faber is just an official launch to say look, this our party leader elect, when we win in November, this will be our Prime Minister and it's a launch of the final block of the campaign period until election day."
