One thing the City Council hasn't been left out of is the chance to run for central government. Three councillors are currently vying for different constituencies. With municipal elections slowly creeping up, it begs the question of what the council will do if it was to lose three members of its team. Mayor Wagner told the media today that they are always willing to add new blood into the council.

"When you have talent on a team, Duane, people grab talent and these people are talented. I can't hold them back. The talent is there, there's a greater need for them. We rebuild, that is what I've been doing all my life. Rebuild Rebuild Rebuild Rebuild team, build young people, bring young people in. We can't just recycle the same old people over and over, that is what the other side has been doing for some time and that same set weh lose ina 2018 wah come back again. We have young people weh we want push, and that is where we wanna go."

The councillors running in this year's general elections are Oscar Arnold for Collet, Candice Pitts for Mesopotamia, and Allan Pollard for Queen Square - all three running in the UDP's strongest city strongholds.

The Belize City Council Act says, quote:
"No person shall be eligible for election as a member of the Council, or having been elected, shall sit or vote on the Council, who:- is or becomes a member of the National Assembly or of any commission established by or under the Belize Constitution."
