The Christian Workers Union is getting ready to rumble with the Belize City Council. The union has written a letter to the Council demanding that the Union and its membership get counter proposals to a new Collective Bargaining Agreement proposal that the union forwarded to the Council in October of 2019.

That was over a year ago - and now the council wants to start negotiations on March 31st. The union says 185 of its Members, rejects the proposed date of from the Council.

A release says, quote, "The Union and its membership have exercised patience over the last 15 months The Union has consistently inquired formally and informally as to when this matter would be addressed, but to no avail.

CWU cannot accept that we are now being asked to wait until after the upcoming municipal elections is held.

CWU has formally shared these grievances with the Labour Department and the Ministry of Labour. We will fight against all treatment that is unfair or disrespectful." End quote.
