The media also asked Balderamos-Garcia to provide an update on the attempts of the Ministry of Indigenous People's Affairs to end boundary disputes between the villages of Barranco - which is Garifuna - and Midway, which is Maya.

Both of these communities appear ready to amicably resolve these land disputes on the premise that they are both indigenous peoples. The Minister told us that the Commissioner of Indigenous People's Affairs is already trying to act as mediator:

Hon. Dolores Balderamos-Garcia - Minister of Human Development
"Our commissioner Mr. Gregory Choc is working on that. We have had a very initial good meeting that was held in Punta Gorda and the both sides are willing to put their positions forward so that we can begin what you called a boundary delimitation, but we have started the conversation, it is not something that will be finish right away."
