And while that was soft power, Senator Bradley is coming on a lot harder against the PUP's proposed 11th Amendment to the Constitution.
He issued a statement today saying, quote, "I vehemently oppose the proposed Eleventh Amendment The Amendment seeks to introduce an entirely new and discriminatory disqualification for membership to the House of Representatives"
Here's what he had to say about the amendment last night:
Darrell Bradley - UDP Senator
"This 11th amendment wasn't bothering anybody, the day before this was introduced."
Jules Vasquez
"Is this ad hominem legislation against Shyne Barrow?"
Darrell Bradley
"I believe that it is, I believe that it is discriminatory because one of the things that the constitution says is that every single person is to be given the right to participate in any affairs of national life and there are limitations in the constitution for example there is an age requirement, the existing law does provide that if you have conviction from a commonwealth state that is disqualify-er for you to hold office. When you broaden that to any country, I think that will have a very significant negative impact. There's a lot of people who have been convicted of offenses and they have gone on to lead very productive lives."
Bradley's statement adds, "A person who has been previously convicted of a crime and who has served out his or her sentence has paid his or her debt to society and should not be punished again. This new disqualification denies a person the right to participate in the national life of the country, including to stand for elections"...It is a dangerous day in any society when a constitution takes a right away. On that day, every person should stand, take notice and be concerned.
