And, If politics is the art of the possible - John Saldivar wants to be the poster boy. He went from leader-designate of the UDP in February, 2020 to (almost) the biggest loser for the UDP at the polls in November of 2020.

But, he's a professional politician - and a man committed to national leadership. That's why he's still in the hunt for an unlikely comeback in the Belmopan constituency - and, you might be surprised, but the man who led his party for 100 hours before stepping down - won't swear off on possibly someday leading his party. Here's how he put it on Sunup this morning:

John Saldivar, Political Candidate

"Since 2016 we've been vying for temporary positions within the party and that's done now."

Reporter:
"So, you're dream of being leader o the party is gone with now?"

John Saldivar, Political Candidate
"I'm still in politics."

Reporter:
"I know, but to be the leader of the party?"

John Saldivar, Political Candidate
"I am still in politics."

Reporter:
"You see what I'm saying it still doesn't."

John Saldivar, Political Candidate
"Win the next general election and for Patrick Faber to become the next Prime Minister of Belize, so that's my focus."

And, after Sunup, the Belmopan caretaker demonstrated that focus when he joined his party leader in a meeting with the Cuban ambassador at the embassy in Belmopan. The two then skipped over to the Senate to pose for a photo with temporary Senator and Saldivar loyalist and defeated UDP Mayoral candidate Jackie Burns.
