Carlos "Obeah" Galvez is a former PUP Mayor, but also a political character of political lore. In 2006, he was elected Punta Gorda mayor against a sweeping red tide countrywide - and emerged as the minority PUP leader of a UDP controlled council.
That, and his easy going personality have made him a beloved figure in the PUP - so he was an easy fit at the Border Management Agency where his close friend and sometimes hang-out buddy, Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler was the man in charge.
But, political friendships easily go "crossway"- and some time ago we heard that Galvez and a group of staffers from Border Management had gone to the PM's office to make some type of complaint.
Well, it seems that act may have triggered his termination from border management. A later dated today says that Galvez is no longer employed b by BMA and no longer authorized to conduct business or issue purchase orders on its behalf.
Reliable reports say he will be replaced by former CEO Yashin Dijon, who was the CEO in the Ministry of Tourism under the UDP.
Many have expressed shock at the firing of a party soldier - but, knowing Obeah, we would expect him to turn up in some other government job pretty soon.
