And while there are no sure things in politics or governance - we did get a public commitment from the Leader of the Opposition - who is aspiring to be UDP party leader and Prime Minister.

He says there should be constitutionally enshrined freedom of the press:

"Certainly, within the next 3 years I will be the next prime minister of this country and as the next prime minister with the majority needed to make such a constitutional amendment, I would. As you bore witness, I suggested to Chairman Espat and the other members of the constitution house committee that they should bring forth the amendment now to enshrine freedom of the press in the constitution."

Presently the free press only operates under the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of expression.
