And the UDP's Shadow Minister for National Security, Michael Peyrefitte, has issued a video statement, calling out the actual minister, Kareem Musa. Peyrefitte referred to him as an "absentee minister" and an "experiment gone wrong." He then accused Musa of not working with the Opposition to tackle this problem and then went ahead and listed the UDP's tips for combating crime. Here is a snippet of the 5-minute statement:
We note that, since 2009, the year with the highest murder count is 2012, which saw 145 murders, followed by 2017, with 142 - both years were under the UDP administration. Additionally, 2020, the UDP's last year in office saw only 102 murders - however, some may attribute that relatively low number to the pandemic. 2021 also saw a lower number with 125 murders.
