The government has made it very clear at the highest levels that it is saying no to Vulcan Mining Company in Gales point.

But, Leader of the Opposition, Shyne Barrow seems to be saying maybe. He visited the village on Sunday along with the party's 2nd Deputy Party Leader, Beverly Williams, and Cayo Regional Leader John Saldivar. He said he went to hear the residents views on the proposed Vulcan development.

And he concluded that, quote "Many residents of Gales Point agree with this policy of balance, hoping for employment and other opportunities that come from investment.

There were some villagers who we met that opposed the project for various reasons, some cited the environment or lack of information.

We look forward to meeting with Vulcan and the environmental agents so we can gather the complete spectrum of perspectives on this development". End quote.

The statement adds, as your next Government the United Democratic Party believes we must not close the door on investors, neither should we ignore the concerns of environmentalists but most importantly we must always put the socioeconomic well being of our Belizean people first and foremost.
