And with that, all that was left was a guarantee that the People's Constitutional Committee really belongs to the people and not to some government or political interest.
Yesterday PM Briceno told the press that while all political parties have representation, G.O.B has done its best to give it its Independence.
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"We went to great lengths to make sure that there is a separation within the government and the commission and that the government is not represented on the commission, what we have now is the political parties that are represented not only the PUP but the opposition and we even found a way how to include the smaller third parties for them to collectively get representation so we have ensured that we are giving them their budget, um, it's an independent budget and they are going to manage their budget to ensure that we can try to be as independent as we possibly can but in a small society like ours, you know, somebody could find something to say oh, the Prime Minister said something or the Minister sided with something or the opposition. Our objective is to try to be as objective as possible and to try to stay away from the actual workings of the commission."
As we've told you the PCC has a timeline of 18 months most of which will be taken up with education campaigns.
That process is expected to culminate with a package of referendums on constitutional amendments, more on that in tomorrow's newscast.
