Yesterday, former Immigration and Police Minister John Saldivar's public reputation went from the frying pan straight into the fire.
That's after the much scandalized politician was designated by the US as "significantly corrupt." Tonight, he's fighting back by putting out his own counter narrative - and you'll hear about that shortly.
But, speaking with the press this morning, Prime Minister John Briceno said he feels badly for Saldivar's immediate family members - who were also named in the designation and banned from traveling to the United States. But, he adds that it's a cautionary tale for his own Cabinet - as he told them last week:
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister

"I do not rejoice what is happening to Mr. Saldivar and especially to his family that quite likely they were not involved in the allegations that were made against him, but it is something certainly for my cabinet for us to be able to look at that and to see what the consequences can be if we do not do what is right."

"What's your reaction to Saldivar's reaction? he's digging his heel despite the biggest power in the world right now saying you cant come to our country because of what you've done and there is evidence to suggest that he's just saying I'm free from any kind of blame."
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Well, he has been saying this for a number of years whenever anything is brought up to him that he is innocent and every time things come out to show that there is not much credibility to what he is saying. But I guess like everybody he has to put some kind of defence; he has to say something. But time will tell."
