Yesterday, we told you that the Belize Peace Movement has won the redistricting case against GOB after a three year battle. As such, the Briceno Administration has conceded to a consent order that the redistricting process will be carried out as soon as possible, with the BPM overseeing the developments. So, the area reps and standard bearers are bracing themselves to either have their constituencies cut, increased, or, eliminated completely.
And in the case of Stann Creek West, it's definitely going to be cut. Numerically, with over 10,000 voters it is the biggest constituency in the country, and it may also be the same geographically. And that's why Area Rep Rodwell Ferguson knows for sure there is a cut coming and he's preparing to say goodbye to half of his loyal voters. But according to Ferguson, no matter which half he keeps, he's sure he will win again.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Youth, Sports & Transport
"It will be reduced by 50% or in two, right now it's almost 11,000 voters so it will be cut in two. I have developed a relationship with all my voters. Bittersweet moment, but I have to make a decision, I have to decide which side I want to choose because any side I take, I believe I can win because I work with my people."
