Over the weekend, the UDP held its Belmopan convention, and you heard all about the beefs, bacon houses, and Big John's big win. But despite all the hoopla surrounding the convention and the strong turnout, the PUP is unfazed. According to the PM, it doesn't matter who they'd put there, because area rep, Oscar Mira, is confident he has Belmopan's votes. But he added that Saldivar is a representation of the UDP.
John Briceno, Prime Minister

"Honestly, I don't want to sound boastful, but it does not matter to us who they put to run in that division. Oscar Mira is the area representative and he has been doing tremendous work in the division. He's been doing a lot of work in fixing roads, building roads, putting in culverts, working on parks. We even setting up now a new police sub-station in Belmopan, thanks to his efforts. So he has been on the ground and has been working. So it doesn't matter to us who they would want to put as their candidate. But John Saldivar is a reflection of the UDP. He reflects what the UDP truly stands for and whilst the leader of the opposition was trying to make these bold statements, he knew what was going to be the results. He knew that you have probably about 20 different former ministers, representatives that are joint at the hip with John Saldivar. They represent the worst of the UDP and that's fine by us. We don't really look at what they're doing, we look at what we are doing. For us what is important that we continue to do the work."
