And, turning now to politics Belmopan's Standard bearer John Saldivar appeared on Sunup on 7 this morning. It followed his first appearance on Jules Vasquez UNCUT, and many would have wondered if there was even anything left to ask.
But hosts Brandon and Renata had their own questions for the once disgraced now triumphant politician.
And, in what turned out to be the climax of that conversation they asked him just how he carried out background checks on his former associates Danny Mason and Lev Dermen.
Host:
"You have to be informed or reasonably informed of this money being dirty, how do you, John Saldivar, go about doing due diligence in finding out where this money is coming from?"
John Saldivar, Standard Bearer, Belmopan
"Well, believe it or not with both gentlemen and with all the people that are foreign and do not know me very well I do google, I do search for these people on the net and find whatever information is there, unfortunately, there is limited information if you haven't been convicted of any crime because there is no public record of your affairs but obviously you can't publish somebody to be corrupt if you haven't been proven."
Host:
"But in the case of Danny Mason? Being a minister of defence though and having access to more things than google, why was a search never done on any one of these gentlemen before accepting funds?"
John Saldivar, Standard Bearer, Belmopan
"Well, I'm sure that a search was done, searches were done it's just that they came up empty until somebody who probably knew him nudged the police and pointed in that direction, it's very easy to hide one's identity so it's very difficult to find out so."
Host:
"But then you kind of condemn media for fact-checking but you didn't fact-check only for when you have those things as well."
John Saldivar, Standard Bearer, Belmopan
"Well, we did to the extent of what we had available."
Host:
"I mean two, one is a shame on me but two."
John Saldivar, Standard Bearer, Belmopan
"Very little information was available until somebody pointed the police to the right."
