A few weeks ago we reported that Orange Walk East Area Rep Kevin Bernard had put a two acre parcel of land within his own constituency in his name. The Carmelita subdivision is known as the "Tower Area" - and it was set up by his predecessor, Elodio Aragon.
The 2 acre plot had been demarcated as a green space - but, for reasons still unknown, Bernard put it in his name as personal property. When we asked him about it, he called it UDP political mischief, and added, quote, "let us wait what will develop in the Carmelita area then we can talk."
Well, what has developed is that Bernard, who received the land in a transfer from the government to himself in April of 2022, has now transferred it back to the Government of Belize as of one week ago, 8th March 2023.
He's the one who informed our newsroom of the transfer and added that his opponent Elodio Aragon Junior is only, quote, "crying" about this "because of major works taking place in OW East in the town and other villages."
