In late February, we told you that Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit, Kent Clare was sent home after receiving notice that his contract would not be renewed.
Well, Clare is not taking it lightly - he says he had a different expectation and he has retained attorney Dean Barrow to fight his case.
Barrow has filed for judicial review of the decision not to renew his contract and he has done so against the Prime Minister and the Attorney General.
The application says that "dismissing the Applicant as Director of the FIU of Belize was unlawful, and procedurally improper, among other offenses and argues that Clare had gotten a written promise that he would be reappointed, and that he had even received a contract - but it was unsigned. With all this, Barrow argues that Clare had a legitimate expectation that he would be reappointed Director of the FIU for three more years.
So now, he is asking for judicial review of the decision not to renew, and that if he gets such permission, it would bar the government from making any other person be director until his case is fully heard.
Again, it's just an application - and we'll have to wait and see what the High Court says.
