And while The Port believes that they've been wrong these proceedings could ultimately be seen as a David against Goliath struggle where the stevedores, should they be found guilty, will never be able to in essence, make blood out of stone to repay the Ashcroft Alliance.
What then can be the goal of this lawsuit, but just an attempt to bully Southside men into submission?
It's a point we put to attorney Guerra this evening when we asked him how they might be expected to pay, he says that's not where the focus should be at this time.
Hector Guerra, Attorney-At-Law
"Well, that is really a matter that we will have to cross the bridge when we come to that point, but I think what we are saying at this point is if you want to engage in a strike which is a matter of principle you have to follow what the law prescribes, you have to remember that the larger and wider society depends highly on the port being functional and on ships being able to load and unload and I think that is what should be underscored at this point."
Justice Chabot is expected to make a ruling at the end of May at that point the matter either concludes with protection for the stevedores or continues on to attempt to get compensation for the port.
