And while Hunt's CV is long and varied, and his reputation as an industry leader is stellar - that doesn't mean that his appointment won't come under challenge by the Ashcroft Alliance.
In fact, everything having to do with NEAC and that Appeals Tribunal is coming under attack.
This is outlined in an explosive new filing by the Alliance, which has invoked the dreaded UK-Belize Investment Treaty - the same one the Alliance invoked against the Barrow Administration when they nationalized BTL.
This time, the claimants are the BRITISH CARIBBEAN BANK LIMITED and PRIZE HOLDINGS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED - both British companies which have the protection of the treaty.
In a typical Ashcroft-ian arrangement, Prize - which was incorporated in 2021 - owns a company named Private Investments Limited, which owns The Belize Port Limited and the Port of Belize Limited.
And they are invoking the treaty because they say NEAC's 2021 and 2022 rejection of the Waterloo Holding Port proposals has violated the treaty. They say government has applied "a lengthier and more onerous process for considering the applications made by PBL than those were applied to other, comparable applications for environmental approval."
Notably, the filing claims, "DoE was acting for ulterior or corrupt purposes in granting environmental approval to projects proposed by PBL's competitors, and in refusing environmental clearance to the Port Project." End quote.
The filing concludes, quote, "The Claimants are entitled to full reparation, in the form of compensation and interest...they include claims for compensation of existing investments in the Port Project and damages arising from lost profits in the Port Project as a result of the Respondent's conduct." End quote,
