And while the ComPol has a new leadership role to manage, will Belize City also have a new leader come next year? The current mayor, Bernard Wagner, has said that he has unfinished business, but would only run if he is endorsed. However, there are some in his own slate that are rumored to be eyeing his mayoral seat. Today the media asked him about it.

"I am sure you are aware that some of the aspirants are coming from your same councillors at this point in time."
Bernard Wagner
"Again, I can't knock anyone for wanting to aspire. As a matter of fact, I always encourage people to aspire and to dream and to seek out what they really want to do in life. But I can't stop that. I give my position and it will be certainly up to the party to see what direction they want to go."

"And so if that endorsement does not come, would it maybe then push you to go for becoming an area rep, central government sooner than later?"
Bernard Wagner
"You di look too far ahead. I noh even contemplate any of that yet. When that happens and if the party goes that direction, then we take it from there."
Remarkably, the PUP has still not decided if the council slate will be chosen by convention or endorsement.
