Tonight, expectation is ripe for the week ahead - as the government moves in to take over the Port of Belize. That is to be effected later this week, but, today the already announced who will comprise the interim Board of Directors.

In line with the Prime Minister's commitment that the new board will NOT be what he called a "sandbox for the play of party politics", the board comprises professionals, most of whom would be considered PUP-adjacent, but certainly not anything close to party hacks.

The interim board will be chaired by Gilly Canton Sr. - who is a former Chair of the Public Utilities Commission. A Government release says, quote, "Mr. Canton has decades of business experience in agriculture and commodities and is specifically familiar with port operations."

He will be joined by labour Senator Elena Smith, who is the former president of the BNTU; attorney Pricilla Banner, accountant Warren Coye; engineer Carlton Young, and the chairman of the Port Authority Lloyd Jones,.
