Today, unionized employees across Social Security Board branches launched a go slow to protest the actions of their employer. It's a follow up on yesterday's action by twenty plus unionized Social Security Inspectors who demanded a meeting with the CEO to get answers on one non union Inspector who had never gotten transferred, while they had all faced regular transfers after three years. They called it blatant preferential treatment and suggested that it was also a low key means of union busting. They demanded an answer from the CEO of Social Security, Debbie Ruiz, and when none was forthcoming, they initiated the go-slow today.
The SSB workers unionized under the CWU announced today that 198 union members are on a "Go-Slow" as a result. A statement says, quote, "ALL members are in support of our brother and sister Inspectors who have taken the brave stance for fair treatment. Our members at SSB reject union busting and favoritism.
We did reach out to the CEO who told us she would not comment on what she considers an internal matter, that is currently moving it way through the grievance mechanism set up in the Collective Agreement.
