And back in the National Assembly, at the beginning of the meeting, the Leader of the Opposition asked the Minister of Labor when the ruling of the Essential Services Arbitration Tribunal would be enforced. That's the tribunal which made a ruling in favor of awarding redundancy payments to the stevedores after sugar went south to The Big Creek Port.

Unlike the question Barrow asked the PM, this one didn't erupt into sparks as Minister Oscar Requena explained that the interim board at the Port is looking into the matter.

Oscar Requena, Minister of Labor

"The Minister of Labor in strict adherence to the settlement of disputes in essential services act has actively facilitated the resolution of disputes ultimately leading to the award. This subsequent enforcement process lies within the jurisdiction of the high court. Today, it is crucial to emphasize that the acquisition of the Port of Belize by the Government of Belize positions the CWU favorably. The government affirms its commitment to fair treatment of workers. An interim board has been appointed to oversee the operations of the Port. In conclusion, I wish to emphasize that the CWU and interim board are currently engaged in discussions addresses various pending matters. The government is committed to taking all necessary actions to ensure compliance with it obligations."
