On Tuesday the Firearms and Ammunitions Control Board announced that applications are now open for those who are interested in obtaining a firearm safety instructor license.
For license holders under this new regime - they must have gotten training from a certified instructor.
We asked the Minister if this meant licenses would soon be issued again and he said he's not so eager for it to resume. He added that the board is moving at a reasonable pace to ensure all checks and balances are in place.
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"I am in not eager or I'm not behind this board to be acting any more swift that they already are, in my opinion, they've been doing an excellent job in terms of the necessary firearm reform that is needed in this country, to me they are taking the rights steps and moving in the right direction so I am not like you, Courtney, looking forward to the day another license is issued so we are letting them do their work as they see fit and when that day comes, it comes."
Reporter:
"How do you deal with the impatience of the gun dealers?"
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs
"I don't have to deal with that, I don't care about that."
