Osmond Martinez is the new PUP standard bearer for Toledo East. The first time candidate won comfortably with a close to 500 vote margin over second place finisher Melhem Espat and Nicanor Requena.

Turnout was very strong for the convention indicating strong voter interest and support. But, tally papers we saw said that 3,124 persons voted, while the Chairman announced at the end of counting that 3,129 persons voted.

But a PUP release today said a total of 3,556 persons or 47% of the total voters in Toledo East, casted their ballots. Sounds like PUP math to us. But, in a release today, the party says, quote, "In the heat of the moment and with fatigue setting in yesterday, an error in the calculation of the results was published. The Party apologizes for this oversight and declares that the individual results as well as the total number of votes stated above, are in fact the official results. These results were verified by the three Candidates and their teams."

Ok then...

Martinez and his UDP and PNP counterparts now await the announcement of a date for the bye election.
