Last December, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eamon Courtenay, resigned from the Cabinet. Francis Fonseca was given his ministry, to add to. His already loaded portfolio of Education, Culture, Science and Technology. So it went from MOECST to MFAFTCST - which is more responsibility than any other minister. We asked the Minister of State, Dr Louis Zabaneh, if he felt slighted that he didn't get the promotion to Minister of Education.
Dr Louis Zabaneh, Area Rep., Dangriga
"In our parliamentary democracy, there's a process and there's a hierarchy and there's wisdom from years of experience. And I have every confidence in Prime Minister's judgment on his decision. I work very well with Minister Fonseca. We know each other for many, many years, and I was elected to serve in whatever capacity Prime minister and Minister Fonseca think that I can serve, I will serve. And so, it's not about the titles and this, you know, the stature that maybe comes with that. It's about the impact of what we could deliver in whatever office or whatever opportunity that I'm given. At the end of the day, the people put me there and I will do my very best in whatever, capacity that I'm allowed to serve in."
