Last month we told you that as of January 2025, Belizeans traveling to the UK will need an Electronic Travel Authorization to enter the country many still call "Mother England." It's not a visa, it is a digital permission to travel, and it does cost 25 - 30 Belize dollars.

Well, Tracy Panton's UDP is asking the UK government to make an exception for Belize.

She issued a release today saying, quote, "This new policy represents a significant step backward for Belizeans, who have long enjoyed visa-free access to the UK as part of the historical ties between our nations."

She asks the UK for a special Belize carve-out since, quote, "As a Commonwealth nation and a long-standing ally of the UK, Belize deserves special consideration in travel policies. The ETA requirement diminishes the privileged access Belizeans have historically enjoyed."

The statement concludes, "The UDP strongly believes that the introduction of the ETA is a regressive move that contradicts the principles of unity and collaboration that the Commonwealth stands for."
