In the midst of a labor dispute with the BNTU, PSU, as well as the KHMHWU, the prime minister departed the country on Saturday June 7th. An official notice sent out today says that Briceno is on duty leave and will be attending the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice, France.

He is expected to return to Belize on June 15th. In his absence, DPM Cordel Hyde will act as prime minister.
