And while Peyrefitte said he came back after speaking to Shyne Barrow, Alberto August, Hugo. Patt and Tracy Panton - the media wondered if Dean Barrow had put him on the mission to save the sinking party. Peyrefitte would only say that he's spoken to party elders:

"Well, you were asking. You ask. You asked me if I'm able to say whether or not we did. Well, naturally. Naturally. I mean, and I'm not saying anything about him. I've been in serious discussions with elders of the party who have told me, "Bwai, Mike, I'm asking you to make a sacrifice, but you're obligated to serve your party. And they are correct. And it's not limited to just one individual. So 4 or 5 individuals, senior members of this party who basically said they believe that the party needs me right now."
