And Faber believes that he was used as a scapegoat since Peyrefitte blamed him for disrupting the meeting when - as he claims - there were less than 50 members in the room. He explained that he walked in peacefully and even withstood a berating before the meeting was called off. Here's what he told us today.
Patrick Faber, UDP Senator
"And for those who believe the narrative that I went there and I was, and I created a scene, let me correct you. I know that you and others were downstairs, Paul, and I went up, you saw me go up to that meeting. I say, you took my picture. And when I went up there, let me tell you what happened, because the narrative that has been spun is completely different. When I got into the room, I was greeted with hugs and handshakes."
"I made my way to the left corner of the room from the door by the podium and I sat there and I refused to move. And I sat there quietly and endured the abuse of the, well, very little from Michael Peyrefitte, which shocked me."
"Clearly he has something personal, because in the room itself, he had very little to say. He didn't even ask me to leave, I will say that. It was Alberto August who came and came quietly and asked me to leave and I said quietly to Alberto August, sir, I am not leaving. I have all rights to be here. I have not been expelled from this party. I am a former leader of this party. I am the lead senator for this party. I have every right to be here. He kept on telling me about an invitation or a list."
"Well, there is a rule, there are rules as to how that list is to be formed, you know. So it's who determined, who will be on the list, makes the list correct. I know that as a former party leader in fact you all hear Peyrefitte say Shyne is member of the Central Executive and the NPC and the National Convention for Life, so is Dean Barrow, well, so is Patrick Farber."
"What we were certain of was that the agreement to have Peyrefitte be returned went wrong from day one because. Peyrefitte again engaged in the agenda of not wanting to engage with the Honorable Tracy Panton and those of us who were on the, who they've put on the other side of the party."
"I kept on insisting to them, I am here for the meeting, please start the meeting, but they couldn't start the meeting because they did not have a quorum. I counted the numbers myself, repeatedly. There was no more than 45, I come 43 and some, I started at 41 and it grew to 43, went to 45, it went down."
"So they used the opportunity to create an impression."
