Jerry Enriquez, he's the citizen activist for election reform who's been ignored by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission after he filed a complaint of judicial bias against a high court judge.
Now, he's filed a freedom of information request asking the attorney general to disclose how much the government paid its high priced law firms, Courtenay Coye LLP, Marine Parade Law Chambers, among others to defend the electoral status quo.
Enriquez says, quote, "The use of public funds to defend State authorities in litigation was viewed as politically advantageous to the ruling administration...(preserving) electoral benefits and raised significant public concern. Questions emerged as to whether the litigation could have been avoided or resolved more cost- effectively, and whether the legal expenses incurred were proportionate and justified."
He writes, quote, "I am interested in knowing whether the public is receiving value for money and ensuring that the expenditure of public funds by the State on litigation is consistent with the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance."
He asks for a listing of the amount paid to each Attorney or firm retained by the State in its defence of the cases for an injunction of an unconstitutional national election, and relevant follow-up cases brought by me since January 2025, to present. He asks, quote, "Kindly identify each Attorney or firm by name and show the full amount paid to each Attorney/firm."
The AG has 14 days to respond. We'll see where it goes.
