And when we asked the PM about the Belcan Bridge's move from CitCo to MIDH, he explained that it was more than the Council could take on. But what now happens to the 1.76 million dollar contract that was awarded to Turba Limited to supervise the project? The PM says he doesn't know just yet whether Belize will have to foot some of that bill.

John Briceno, Prime Minister

"I don't know yet, but if there's a contract and we have any legal obligation to pay a part of it, what I know for sure we will not pay the entire contract because then we will not be using all their expertise. I just want to make, for clarity sake, when they started off with the project, MIDH started the process but then the City Council said that they believe that they could handle the managing of the building or supervising the construction of Belcan. We saw it as a natural evolution, like what happens in other cities around the world where the city is in charge. But after they started the whole process, they realized it's a bit more complicated and in discussions we felt that it would have been best if we put it back at MIDH. I believe that MIDH has a proud record under our government, our administration to get these things done right."

Courtney Menzies:
"If there's any part of it to be paid off, will it be paid by the government of Belize or the government of Taiwan?"

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I have no idea but when that time comes, we will deal with it."
