There are only a few hours left until New Year's, and yesterday you heard from the Prime Minister about what he would call a prosperous 2025. But while he spoke about GST free weekends and Hydro Belize, the Opposition Leader's message had a very different take. In it, Tracy Panton outlines the main issues Belizeans are facing and the concerns she has for 2026.
Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"Cost of living continues to spiral out of control, fuel prices at the pump are at a record high. Our healthcare system is in shambles. Parents struggle to provide for their families and farmers fight to protect their livelihoods. We have seen the constitutional rights or our citizens compromised, our border security under threat, our democracy in peril, and the working poor having to carry an unfair burden. As we look forward to 2026, Belizeans will face higher electricity and water rates, increased property taxes and pressures that will require honest leadership and real solutions. As your government in waiting, the United Democratic Party reaffirms its commitment to you."
Panton's message was two and a half minutes long; the Prime Minister's one was 7 minutes.
