Last night we showed you the intriguing text message that the Cabinet Secretary accidentally posted on his WhatsApp status. It alleged corruption in a government ministry and named names. And tonight after speaking to the named parties, we can say that Director of Rural Development, Charles Galvez is at the center of the allegations.
Galvez was confirmed in December, 2025 - and it's his second stint there after a brief time at the Ministry of Education.
And this time around, he has gained some enemies who say that he was unqualified for that post.
And now he's facing allegations of corruption and kickbacks. Today, via phone our reporter spoke with Galvez on his reaction to the leaked message:

"It was sad to see that whatever allegations were being made is basically just false information and a total defamation of my character and the entire credibility of the Ministry of Rural Transformation."
"To be honest with you, I think it was mistakenly posted as it was a private matter for discussion. However, it was already sent out mistakenly, you know. But my CEO, who is the accounting officer of the ministry, called me into a meeting as I was at the ministry returning from a field work."
"And he brought it to my attention. And then we basically had a discussion on the matter because we know that it was all misinformation. And a choice of whosoever is doing this is doing so with an agenda of their own."
"To one, basically befame my character and at the same time cause a very smear on the hard work that we do at the Ministry of Rural Transformation."

"And do you guys think that this is someone specifically targeting the ministry?"

"I personally believe we have a very, I would say, strongly believe, we believe we know where it's coming from. We know exactly where it's coming from and it will be addressed in time."
Galvez also said that he has never received a commission cheque from Benny's as alleged in the message. He says the smear campaign is fueled by persons who do not want to see him as Director.
