Yet if the acquisition was to be consummated, Dennison maintains that the consequences will have long term implications. He describes this decision as an irreversible transaction that cannot be undone overnight.

Glenfied Dennison, Union Senator

"So we have to stop this before it goes ahead so I am calling for public outcry against what could possibly be an irreversible transaction that could cause… you know monopolies are used by dictators to control their population. I am an advocate for free speech, so like, and I have a thing in my brain where I am very sinister and I tend to see things through in a very sinister way. And I have seen in my mind the sinisterness, that I, Glenfield Dennison can cause on the people of Belize if I am in charge of a telecoms monopoly like BTL having acquired SMART. I am telling you, my mind says it is dangerous because oh the Trade Union Congress, you guys want to have a protest tomorrow? None of your phones will work. You want to shut down things at PG? At Stann Creek? None of the cell towers will give a signal. Me, but I am kind of evil and I have evil thoughts sometimes and maybe the people at BTL are not evil like me and would never wish to do things like that perhaps. But that does not change the fact that the power will be there."
