The San Pedranos are planning a protest on June 3rd against rise in fuel costs, destruction of the marine ecosystem, and more. It will be happening in front of Perez's office on Coconut Drive and we asked Perez how he feels about it today.

Andre Perez, Area Representative Belize Rural South

"Look I am not going to get personal with a nobody here but I believe that this is something that everybody has a right to voice their concerns especially in this day and age of social media I want to make it clear that this is a democratic country we are free to say anything you want, you are free to demonstrate to manifest but there is something a level whereby we must respect one another. The groundswell is what I don't want to agree with that is not the adequate word to say that because I don't think it is going to go anywhere now I am not ignoring it, I shared the concerns of the community it has not been easy the rising costs of many different things other than fuel, the rising cost of goods the food basket has gone up but nonetheless is want to reach out and say work has been done I think that is where we are. Maybe we as a government I myself as the area rep has not been out there to show what work is being done. This hospital in particular the giving out of lands to first time land owners that is something that is a plus. I want to take you to a beach rehabilitation program we want to do right now that we are doing at Boca del rio those are good things we are doing while we have challenges of development, challenges of over development I do not see why we want to see anyone make any manifestations but to call it a ground swell I don't agree with that."
