On Saturday afternoon the Belize National Football Team lost to their Guatemalan rivals in the CONCACAF Gold Cup eliminations by 1-0. But all is not lost. Right now as we speak - our team is battling with Nicaragua on a football field in Salvador in a last ditch effort for a spot to play for the Gold Cup. The only goal of the game on Saturday afternoon was scored in the eighth minute by Guatemala's Gustavo Cabrera.
The Belize team was strong on defense which kept Guatemala from scoring anymore goals. And it is that 1-nil loss that has Belize still in the game. Because our team lost to both Guatemala and Salvador by only a point - tonight the team lead by Shane Orio is playing against Nicaragua for a finish in third place.
A win tonight is absolutely necessary if Belize wants to advance in the competition. We'll have results of the game tomorrow night.
