And while government has high hopes for future programmes with Venezuela, they’ve got some rocky days ahead with the Bella Vista Development Company which was contracted by the last administration to build the Belize Sports Centre, also known as the Marion Jones Sports Complex. Last week, the $16.9 million contract was cancelled by the government project officer, on the grounds that government can terminate the contract for its convenience at any time. Well, not so says Bella Vista which has retained an attorney and we are told plans to sue government for a breach of contract.

Thus far, $2 million had been disbursed in the contract, which is to build an new indoor arena in the parking area of what is now known as the Marion Jones Sporting Complex.
