Remember Rhiki Allegria? He’s the 8 year old karate kid who came back from the International Shotokan competition in Canada last year with a gold and a bronze medal. Well he’s 9 now and he’s become the youngest black belt in the region. Allegria received his belt in a ceremony on Saturday. His sensei Leonard Nunez told us that the club is building on that distinction as it gets ready for the Shotokan Pan American Tournament in Guyana.

Leonard Nunez, Sensei
“The opening of our team training for next to attend the Shotokan Pan American Karate Tournament in Guyana, next year summer. So this is our opening training so that we have a team for that tournament. We are preparing for the tournament, we are putting in extra work. We expect to train at least six times a week; five days during the week of Monday to Friday and then we train twice on Saturday.”

Codie Noralez,
“How many kids are involved?”

Leonard Nunez,
“We have five black belt kids from the age of nine to sixteen. All are first degree black belts. We have Rhiki Allegria who just got his black belt.”

“It makes me feel proud because I have trained so hard and long and I really wanted this so now that I got it I am just so happy. I have been practicing karate for maybe four and a half years.”

The Tournament is set for next year summer.
