It's official, the La Ruta Maya River challenge 2021 has been cancelled.
The race which was supposed to take place on the Heroes and Benefactors holiday weekend on March 5 – 8, 2021 faced growing concerns around COVID-19, and whether Ministry of Health and wellness protocols would offer spectators adequate protection. Ultimately it was decided that the race and its surrounding activities were a no go.
And it's a major disappointment to many, the first time in 24 years that the race has been cancelled But the committee says it's planning other ways for our paddlers and fans to get together through a combination of locally hosted radio and TV events, videos, and live streamed content on Love FM. They've also planned a Trivia challenge which will take place through the course of the 9th of March weekend.
