In 2013, Costa Rican football coach Leroy Sherrier Lewis - led Belize to a fourth place finish at the Nation's Cup - which was the first and only time Belize got into the Gold Cup.
Well - news has reached Belize - that the 76 year old has passed away - reportedly from complications due to cancer.
A release from the Football Federation of Belize says, quote, bCoach Sherrier, also known as "Profe" touched the lives of many football players and was the coach who led the Jaguars to their historical qualification to the Gold Cup in 2013. He later returned to coach the Bandits for the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League….Coach Sherrier will always be remembered for the passion he demonstrated for the sport and for the impact he had on the lives of those he touched."
Sherrier was noted for defining the defensive style that served the Belize National Team well for many years.
