Belizean women rule Central American Volleyball. That was firmly re-established last night when the team won the U-23 championship for the second year in a row. Jomarie Lanza was there and she looks back at last night's historic tournament.

The Civic Centre went wild last night and Belizeans rejoiced after the Under 23 girls National Volleyball team claimed their second Women's Central American Volleyball Championship in a row, with a dominant 3 - 1 victory over Guatemala - breezing to a 25-10 victory in the final set.

The girls hugged and celebrated on-court as the civic centre erupted in cheers and wild adulation.

Fans were cautioned to remain in the bleachers as they began to remove the net and proceed with the distribution of medals and individual awards.

Belize secured 3 special awards, 2 of which went to Kaya Gordon for Best Attacker and Tournament MVP, along with Nissan Martinez who was awarded best opposite in the tournament.

And after the bronze was handed over to Honduras and the Silver to Guatemala, the crowd and players stood at attention for the national anthem after the Gold trophy was officially awarded to the Belize team.

A moment of true national pride for the home team as they now stand as the most dominant team in Central America for now, and going forward.

Throughout the tournament, Belize lost only one set.
