Again, at newstime rains have stopped in the city but the forecast says that the system is moving west but the rain will be concentrated over northern Belize. Forecast models say that rain is expected to continue for another 12 to 18 hours. That is very bad news for the storm affected areas in Corozal and Orange Walk. Already today, flood waters were running across the road near San Pablo and San Jose Villages, which sit at the boundary of the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts.
The Met Department reports that the Rio Hondo and New Rivers are expected to rise to near flood levels; and river levels between Banana Bank and the coast are above normal and expected to increase to flood levels. With that, this evening at 6:00 pm, NEMO issued a flood advisory for the Freetown Sibun area, Crooked Tree, Gracie Rock and other low lying areas, prone to flash floods.
NEMO also advises that low lying zones near main rivers and larger tributaries in Belize, Orange Walk, and Stann Creek Districts must be on the lookout for possible flooding on Thursday and Friday.
