According to the authorities, reports from emergency personnel indicate that Orange Walk Town and the surrounding villages, experienced unprecedented flooding due to that low-pressure system, and it even washed away a culvert on the edge of Orange Walk Town.

According to the Chief Meteorologist, this part of the country experienced half of the normal amount of rainfall for June, in only 6 hours of the continuous downpour this weekend:

Daniel Ortiz
"Which parts of the two northern districts, would you say, experienced the worst of the flooding?"

Colonel Shelton Defour - NEMO Coordinator
"From our operational reports, it would be communities in Orange Walk Town, communities also in Corozal, and surrounding villages. San Narcisco, Louisville. That is for Corozal. And then, down in Orange Walk, Guinea Grass, Santa Marta, and those communities. And it would be from the reports - and San Jose area, about 5 to 6 communities which really saw the deluge of rain impacting their areas."

"The rainfall that we experience in the Orange Walk District, especially in Tower Hill, for about four or five hours yesterday afternoon was somewhat unprecedented. We recorded up to four inches of rainfall within that 6-hour period. That's a lot of rainfall. To put that in perspective, the normal rainfall so for the month of June is about 200 millimeters, and we got about 100 millimeters. So, we got about half of what the month normally gets in about 6 hours."
